Coming off their first win of the season, the Rampage face off tonight for the first of back-to-back games against the Cleveland Monsters. The Rampage defeated a depleted Stars team 4-2 on Tuesday in Cedar Park in a game that saw the Rampage lose their starting goalie, Jeremy Smith, to injury after 20 minutes. Smith, who took a dangerous shot from recently released Travis Ewanyk, is day-to-day and will be re-evaluated when the team returns to San Antonio. Kent Simpson was called up from the ECHL and will serve as Spencer Martin’s backup.

The Rampage continued their balanced scoring attack, getting goals from four different scorers, and were once again impressive on the penalty kill. More importantly, the team was very good protecting their two goal lead in the final period. They maintained their aggressive play and made it very difficult for Texas to muster any kind of possession through the neutral zone.

Tonight will be a much stiffer test as the Monsters are relatively healthy and return several key contributors to their Calder Cup winning team from last season, including young phenom goaltender Anton Forsberg and dangerous forward Oliver Bjorkstrand.

According to the team’s tweet, the Rampage will run an identical lineup to Tuesday’s game tonight versus the Monsters with the exception of the goalies:

After this set of games in Cleveland, the Rampage return home for a Sunday showdown with Western Conference powerhouse Ontario before heading out on a six games in 10 days California road trip.
